What makes a wedding and its reception unforgettable?

Many brides think it’s their dress (which is likely a factor). However, for guests at weddings, it is how unique or different the wedding and the reception are. Most people have been to a wedding reception held at a pub or even a small hall, so how can you make your wedding reception unique?

1. The Scenery

For many couples getting married in the summer, it is worth considering a scenic wedding location for the vows and reception. This will allow you and your guests to take some spectacular wedding photos and to feel the beauty of the surroundings. Plus, come summer, you can hire a marquee, which is usually something that you and your wedding guests won’t forget.

2. Unforgettable Catering

Catering is a must for weddings, and rather than choose sausage rolls and coleslaw, try to get catering from a team that offers something different. Catering teams that offer buffets are popular, but if you are having your wedding reception at a venue with a kitchen, you could try in-house or “plated” catering, where the food is cooked onsite and then given to guests.

However, you don’t need high-end catering for it to be unforgettable. Microweddings are becoming popular, which can often have potluck-style food options or home-made nibbles for your catering. You could even go for a home-made wedding cake if you want something small.

You could opt for a chocolate fountain or even cheese fondue as the main feature.

3. A Playlist for Everyone

Most people have been to a wedding where they have heard “The Birdie Song” and other tracks from the 1970s or 1980s.

It is fun but not unique. Work with your partner and your guests to come up with a playlist that the entire guest list will enjoy. That doesn’t mean you have to have the theme tune to Paw Patrol played for toddler guests, but if you and your partner don’t like traditional wedding music, then don’t play it. You could create a playlist that has songs related to your relationship, which will spark memories and create a happy atmosphere.

4. Personalization

If you have a seating chart, you can place name cards for all of your guests and even get their input on the food that is served. This is usually best done by asking about intolerance and allergies, but also asking about what foods your guests will want to have.

Of course, as the couple getting married, it is smart to put your own stamp on your wedding reception. You could have a section of the catering dedicated to your favorite foods, or foods that are linked to your relationship (e.g., if you had your first date at a fish restaurant, then you can opt for fish).

This will help to personalize your wedding reception from others and avoid the standard cucumber sandwiches and sausage rolls. You don’t need drama for your wedding reception to be memorable, and by following these steps, you will have a reception that is not only memorable but also fun.
